The Consumer Protection Division is responsible for inspecting all restaurants and retail markets in the county and ensuring their compliance with state laws and regulations.
The Environmental Health Division also investigates all complaints, reports of foodborne illness and food related health problems, and provides technical expertise and training for the food service industry in Mesa County. This is accomplished by:
- Licensing and inspection of all restaurants, grocery stores, delis, concession stands, mobile food units and pushcarts, food processors and warehouses
- Participation in foodborne illness investigations associated with licensed and inspected facilities
- Plan reviews, inspection and approval of all new or extensively remodeled food establishments
- Conducting change-of-ownership inspections
- Conducting food education training classes to ensure a basic knowledge of the key issues that are associated with safe food handling and foodborne illness
- Investigating and following-up on complaints
- Inspecting temporary events
- Issuing Keynotes, a foodservice newsletter
- Maintaining an online restaurant inspection database
