The Mesa County Health Department has
issued a No Open Burning Air Watch Alert for Mesa County, including
agricultural burns, from noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
According to the National Weather
Service, Grand Junction field office:
  • The Red Flag
    Warning was issued due to gusty winds, low humidity and dry fuels.
  • The affected are
    in Colorado includes Fire Weather Zone 203 Lower Colorado River below
    7,000 feet.
  • Southwest winds
    of 10 to 15 mph could reach gusts up to 30 mph.
  • Humidity is 12
    to 17 percent.
  • Conditions have
    the potential for rapid fire growth and spread upon ignition.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical
fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination
of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to
extreme fire behavior.
