About 1,000 School District 51 students will be walking and rolling to school on Wednesday, May 6, in conjunction with Bike to School Day.
The Safe Routes to School event is meant to raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling.
Walking and biking together builds connections between families and promotes pedestrian safety and physical activity among children.
School District 51 encourages those who are riding bikes to follow bike safety precautions, such as:
• Wear a helmet.
• Use bike lanes wherever possible.
• Be aware of your surroundings.
• Wear appropriate clothing.
• Look before turning or crossing streets.
