June is
Colorado Bike Month and Mesa County residents have plenty of opportunities to
join in the fun, festivities and challenges.
Bike
Month in Mesa County kicks off on June 1 at 5:30 p.m. with Urban Trails at Grand
Junction City Hall, 250 N. 5th St., with a family leisure ride and
free dessert. Ride your bikes and enjoy a summer evening in downtown Grand
Junction!
The Commuter Challenge begins May 29.
Challenge your friends and colleagues to see who can accumulate the most
mileage using your bike instead of your car to get from place to place in Mesa
County (with the exception of recreational riding)! Prizes will be given to the
top commuter in the Grand Valley!
The Business Challenge is a
great way to build team spirit and engage in a friendly competition against
other businesses in our community. Challenge your staff to bike to work on June
22, 2016 for Bike to Work Day. The company or organization with the highest
percentage of employees that bike to work on June 22 gets to display a
traveling trophy in their workplace for an entire year!
Colorado Bike Month is for kids, too! Kids
who ride their bikes, while wearing a helmet, to one of the Mesa County
Libraries branches 10 times on different days will receive one FREE admission
to a swimming pool in Palisade, Grand Junction or Fruita.
Gear Up for Bike Safety is
another way for kids to participate! Police officers will be handing out FREE
ice cream cone coupons to kids riding their bikes safely and wearing a helmet
during the month of June!
