One in three children in the U.S. is overweight or obese, putting them at risk for health problems like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.

Kids need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous active play every day. If 60 minutes sounds like too much, try breaking it up into intervals spread throughout the day.

Get the entire family involved in physical activity and make it fun! Take a walk, go to the park or go for a bike ride as a family. When buying toys for your kids, purchase things that encourage physical activity, like balls, kites and jump ropes.
Encourage healthy eating habits. Try replacing a candy dish with a fruit bowl and store especially tempting foods, like cookies, chips or ice cream, out of eyesight. Plan a menu for the week and involve your children in the planning process. Get them excited about eating healthy food!
